Behind Our Expressions (view exhibit)

What is the structure of human emotion? Are we truly free to vent in the way that we choose? Or do certain feelings linger beneath the surface? And how do we communicate what is hidden inside when words fall short?

These expressions that seem to come so natural at times can also lead us to feel twisted inside. These feelings can be contagious to those around us, as well as toxic. Perhaps if we look at the world in a new way, we can gain a perspective on what controls our inner selves.

Behind Our Expressions urges us to reflect on what we feel, how we express ourselves, and fundamentally, how that shapes us into who we are.

Through Discovery (view exhibit)

What makes you "you"? This process of self discovery is timeless. As we grow we must continue to dig and search for our own true identity. We must contemplate all the factors in our lives that have contributed to the person that we have become. Expectations from our families and the world often pull us in many directions. We are often pulled in so many directions that we may wonder how much control truly rests within ourselves and how much from beyond.

Through Discovery urges us to reflect on those pieces, those moments that continue to define who we are and what we may become.

Paul Gamo, Alexis Kadonsky, Jordan McGirk, Dana Szfranski

The Art of Not Looking (view exhibit)

What causes us to stop looking at the spaces and faces that surround us? Fear? Indifference? Ignorance? Embarrassment? Exhaustion? Satisfaction? Perhaps merely a moment we steal to internalize the view that we have of ourselves and the world around us?

When we close our eyes in public spaces, we communicate narrative details. We send messages to the people around us. Do we seek to be seen in our moment of avoidance? Is it a subtle call for help? Do others see what we want them to see? The Art of Not Looking reminds us that even our most simple actions can mark the beginning of a complicated story.

Adam Fabianski, Paul Habeeb, Jordan McGirk, Kristin Mueller

The Art of Looking (view exhibit)

How do we look at the world around us? How do we look at ourselves? What do we do when we think nobody is looking?

The process of looking is so elemental to so many of us that we tend to take it for granted. But in truth, this is a vital exercise, one that connects us to—and disconnects us from—the faces, places, and small details we encounter every day. Sometimes what matters is not what we look at, but how we look at it. Do we see order or chaos? Bare bones or the full picture? The Art of Looking simply asks you to look closer.
